October 9, 2025 – Fresno Police Department officials report that on October 7, 2025, just after 8:00 p.m., Southwest patrol officers responded to the area of Calaveras Street and Van Ness Avenue regarding an adult male victim of an assault. The suspect, later identified as Keon Pyant, had armed himself with a large chunk of asphalt and approached a victim seated at a bus stop. While the victim was not looking, Pyant struck him twice in the side of the head with the asphalt, causing a large laceration. The victim was examined on scene by EMS and declined transport to a hospital.
Pyant then left the scene and was located shortly after by Skywatch. A K-9 officer made verbal contact with Pyant, who was uncooperative and armed with a second chunk of asphalt. Pyant raised the asphalt towards the officers several times. K-9 Nick was deployed as Pyant attempted to leave the area. Just as K-9 Nick got to him, Pyant turned and struck K-9 Nick in the face, breaking a tooth. K-9 Nick was still able to apprehend Pyant, and officers were able to take him into custody.
