October 11, 2025 – Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Wednesday October 8, 2025, at approximately 9:19 p.m. in the evening, Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Long Barn Road after a 911 caller reported her fiancé had been stabbed by a family member, 66-year-old Catherine Childers Scotto.

Patrol deputies responded with emergency lights and sirens. Upon arrival, they detained Scotto and rendered aid to the victim—who was found face down on the ground, bleeding from a stab wound on his back. Medical personnel responded and transported the victim, who was later flown to an out-of-area hospital for further treatment.

Once the scene was secure, deputies continued their investigation. Deputies interviewed involved parties and witnesses and collected evidence. While processing the scene, they located the knife that had been used in a yard nearby the residence.

The victim told deputies Scotto had been drinking alcohol and began an argument over residency at the home. During the argument, Scotto stabbed the victim with a knife. The victim also reported the day prior to the incident, Scotto had made threats to kill him and his family.

Deputies spoke to the Rp who told them she was outside and heard the victim yell he had been stabbed and to call 911. After the victim and Scotto separated, the victim crawled outside where he was later located by responding deputies.

TCSO Detectives were called out to assist. Detectives authored a warrant for the house, conducted further interviews and completed processing of the scene with the assistance of Community Service Officers and deputies.

Scotto was arrested and booked at the Dambacher Detention Center on the charges of attempted murder and misdemeanor child abuse.

Due to this case being under active investigation, no further information will be released at this time.
