Train Collision in Carlsbad
January 16, 2024 - San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials report that an investigation is underway after a deadly train collision in the City of Carlsbad.
It happened on Monday, January 15th at about 12:30 p.m. near the Carlsbad Village Station in the City of Carlsbad. When Carlsbad Police Officers arrived, they found a man who was hit by a southbound Amtrak train. Paramedics rushed to give aid, but he did not survive his injuries.
The Sheriff's Transit Enforcement Unit (TEU) investigates incidents along the routes of the routes of the North County Transit District which Amtrak uses. Carlsbad Police Department requested the Sheriff's TEU respond to conduct the investigation.
The Medical Examiner's Office will make a positive identification of the man, as well as determine cause and manner of death pending notification of his family.
