January 22, 2019 - President Trump loves to brag about how great he is, and the he has no shame about the lies within his boasts. He said that he had the largest inaugural attendance (he lied). He said he'd hire all the "best people" (Gen. Flynn -plea deal, heading to prison, also best person "fixer", lawyer and friend Michael Cohen -plea deal, heading to prison, another 'best person' campaign Chairman Paul Manafort now in prison... numerous Cabinet and staff resignations, foreign advisor George Papadopoulos jail time, and the list goes on).
The president also bragged about his negotiating skills. He pointed to his book 'The Art Of The Deal' to prove his negotiation prowess. Voters who were paying attention clearly remember him saying that we would all be tired of winning, "And some of you are friends and you're going to call, and you're going to say, 'Mr. President, please, we can't take it anymore, we can't win anymore like this, Mr. President, you're driving us crazy, you're winning too much, please Mr. President, not so much". So, where are we at? North Korea hasn't abandoned their nuclear program. In fact, more missile bases were just discovered last week. It was proven that Russia interfered with our 2016 election, so President Obama placed economic sanctions on Russia before the end of his second term. Now Trump wants those economic sanctions lifted. Seriously. The Saudi Arabian government murdered a U.S. legal resident and journalist for the Washington Post and Trump does nothing. The president said that ISIS has been defeated but just last week we lost four soldiers to an ISIS bombing in Syria. As of Dec. 2018, our trade deficit has now widened to over 55.5 billion - two billion more than it was in Nov. 2018 and highest ever since Oct. 2008 (George W. Bush admin.) Is this all brilliant leadership, borne out of the best negotiating skills?
And here we are in a government funding shutdown because the 'greatest negotiator ever' could not even get his own Republican party to give him his border wall before they were voted out of office. President Trump's negotiating skills are so terrible that he has now taken hostage not only of the livelihoods of 800,000 federal employees, but of every aspect of society that makes contact with those employees. It's as if the Toddler-In-Chief has told us that he's going to turn blue until he gets what he wants - and is proud to do it as well. Sad. What will the president want next time around that he'd be willing to shut down the government for, at any time? Someone needs to remind the president that America does not negotiate with hostage takers - we smoke them out.
We are now 31 days into the Trump Shutdown as of Tuesday, January 22. The Democratic House majority, in office for only 19 days, has been busy writing legislation to re-open the government to end the hostage taking. Yes, there are some adults in the room.
