March 18, 2022 - When you really need it, you will be glad you voted yes on Measure O. Once again we residents of Mariposa County have the opportunity to help our hospital. Recently I was very grateful to have John C. Freemont hospital available. I needed emergency treatment for tachycardia. I was able to drive myself to the hospital, maybe not the best decision to do it myself. The emergency room staff was concerned and acted quickly. I had the full attention of a doctor, a PA, and nurses. It turned out I needed hospitalization.
Last October I had emergency surgery at St. Agnes hospital in Fresno. This is a good hospital, but they were operating at a crisis level, completely overwhelmed. Because of the covid virus they were overcrowded, understaffed, supplies were short, and they ran out of rooms for patients. My week stay there was horrible. The contrast with that stay and my stay at John C. Fremont was striking.
In Mariposa the patient rooms were large and comfortable. The nurses were truly wonderful, attentive, with everything I needed. Dr. Bahia, the hospital doctor, was careful and explained my condition. The cardiac tests I needed were available because the hospital has skilled technicians and equipment.
Yes, the physical building itself is dated, but that is something we can change with this bill. I was just so grateful to have this kind of care here in my community. Trips to the hospital are not pleasant events but having wonderful care available here in Mariposa is a blessing. We need to keep this facility running and repaired.
