Stay Alert!
December 19, 2023 - San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department officials report that scammers are impersonating law enforcement officials on the phone, telling citizens they have a warrant for their arrest and asking them to pay in bitcoin to avoid arrest. The Sheriff’s Department will never call a citizen and ask them to pay to avoid arrest.
These scammers may have pieces of your personal information leaked online to sound convincing, but they are NOT law enforcement. If you receive a call like this, say you’ll call them back and do not provide any information. You can verify with your local police or Sheriff’s station through their official public phone number if a law enforcement official is attempting to contact you for any reason.
