November 5, 2024 – Monterey County Sheriff’s Office officials report that they have arrested a 15-year-old male juvenile who led them on a vehicle pursuit which was called off by deputies after his increased recklessness became a and danger to public safety.
On Saturday November 2, 2024, Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies were conducting DUI Enforcement as part of grant funding that was awarded to reduce alcohol related harm.
At about 10:41 P.M., deputies attempted to stop a grey Ford Mustang for exhibition of speed on US 101 near John Street. The driver fled and led deputies on a pursuit with speeds exceeding 70 MPH on surface streets and reached speeds of over 100 MPH on the highway. Deputies discontinued the pursuit due to the increased recklessness of the driver and in the interest of public safety.
Deputies continued their investigation and were able to identify the driver and locate the vehicle. The driver was identified as a 15-year-old male. The juvenile male was cited and released to a parent for the following violation:
12500(a) CVC – Unlicensed Driver
2800.2(a) CVC – Reckless Evading
2800.4 CVC – Driving Opposite Traffic / Evading
23109(c) CVC – Exhibition of Speed.
The vehicle involved was towed and impounded for 30-DAYS.
