September 17, 2024 – El Dorado County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Sunday, September 15th, 2024, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a social media post (Social Media Platform SNAPCHAT) that indicated a threat of violence towards schools. While the investigation was conducted into the messages, the school administration of Buckeye Unified was notified regarding the social media post due to a similar school name being used.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined this message was one of multiple nationwide social media threats to school that are currently trending and circulating across the internet. The originating message on SNAPCHAT was from Ohio and an arrest had already been made regarding the threats. This message, like that of similar social media messages, has been shared countless times nationally on social media platforms. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, based on the investigation, determined that this message was not a credible threat to the safety of the community.
These messages are, however, taken extremely seriously by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office. Out of an abundance of caution regarding these threats and the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office’s continued commitment to the safety of the community the Sheriff’s Office had an increased presence in and around the schools of El Dorado County.
