TCSO scam
Latest Phone Scam Uses Number to TCSO Dispatch

July 15, 2025 – Tulare County Sheriff Boudreaux wants to make you aware of the latest phone scam going around telling people they missed a federal court appearance or didn’t show up for federal court jury duty and Tulare County Sheriff’s deputies are going to arrest them. The phone number they’re calling from is one of the numbers that rings into our Emergency Dispatch Center.

So far, seven people have called that number back and talked to TCSO dispatchers.

The scammers use the fictitious name “Lieutenant Keith Miller” and they may also say the person they are calling needs to respond to the Sheriff’s Department for a handwriting analysis. Scammers say that if the victims don’t respond to the Sheriff’s Office, they will have to pay money to avoid an arrest warrant.

Don’t be fooled by phone scammers! Even though they have the victims’ names, phone numbers and home addresses, they are not legitimate.

If you’re wanted by law enforcement, we will not call you on the phone but instead knock on your door or arrange an appointment.

If you get a call from a phone scammer, here’s what you should do:

  • Say, “No, thank you,” and hang up the phone.
  • Do not send money.
  • Do not give them your personal information.
  • If you become a victim, contact law enforcement.
