January 31, 2025 – Ventura County Sheriff's Office officials report that there have been several reports of scammers using 
immigration status to scam Ventura County residents. Please be aware no government agency will ask you to send money through a money transfer or ask for personal information over the phone.
If you receive a suspected scam call, we recommend citizens hang up, block the number (if possible), and do not send the scammers any money. If you are unsure or concerned you may be involved in a scam, you can contact your local police station using their official phone number and not the number provided by the suspected scammer. You can also file a complaint online with the Federal Trade Commission at www.ftc.gov or the Federal Bureau of Investigation at www.ic3.gov.
En español: Se han recibido varios informes de estafadores que utilizan el estatus migratorio para estafar a los residentes del Condado de Ventura. Por favor de tener en cuenta que ninguna agencia gubernamental le pedirá que envie dinero a través de una transferencia de dinero o le pedirá información personal por teléfono.
Si recibe una llamada sospechosa de estafa, le recomendamos a los residentes que cuelgen, bloqueen el número (si es posible) y no envíen dinero a los estafadores. Si no está seguro o le preocupa ser victima de una estafa, puede comunicarse con la estación de policía local utilizando el número de teléfono oficial y no el número de teléfono que le proporcionó el presunto estafador. Tambien puede presentar una queja en linea ante la Comisión Federal de Comercio en www.ftc.gov o la Oficina Federal de Investigaciones en www.ic3.gov.
