Arrest Made in Courier Scam
August 29, 2025 – Fresno Police Department officials report that the Department's Financial Crimes Unit, in coordination with the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Financial Crimes Task Force - Fresno, made an arrest of an individual involved in a sophisticated courier scam that targeted a Fresno resident.
The suspects, who falsely posed as law enforcement officers, contacted the victim through text message and falsely claimed that the victim’s credit cards had been used to purchase illicit materials online. The suspects demanded a cash payment of $30,000 from the victim, in lieu of the victim’s arrest. After a thorough investigation, detectives arrested scam suspect, 32-year-old Dehua Zou on August 22, 2025. Zou has been booked into the Fresno County Jail for Penal Code 532 - Theft by False Pretenses.
The Fresno Police Department urges the community to remain vigilant against such scams, which exploit unsuspecting individuals. If anyone suspects they might be a victim of a similar scheme, they are encouraged to report the incident to local law enforcement.
