SCAM ALERT: Fraudulent Bail Bond Calls Targeting Families
October 19, 2025 – Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office officials report that they want to make the public aware of an ongoing scam involving individuals impersonating bail bond agents. In a recent incident, a family received a call from someone claiming to be a bond agent, requesting $1,250 via Zelle to have their loved one released from custody to an ankle monitor.
This is not a legitimate process. Bail bond agents do not contact families directly to request money for ankle monitor releases.
Unfortunately, these scams are becoming more common. We’ve had individuals come in after sending money, believing their loved one would be released from custody — only to find out they had been scammed.
If you receive a suspicious call:
Do not send money.
Do not provide personal information.
Contact your local law enforcement or supervision agency directly to verify any claims.
Please share this message to help prevent others from becoming victims of this scam.
